Luca Montaldo, the founder and managing director of CEO Consult, has more than 30 years of proven entrepreneurial experience in all aspects of running large and small international companies, with special regard to the Fashion industry. As an accomplished global executive in the consulting industry and fast-moving consumer goods sector, Luca works with both investors and managers, using his skills in turnaround, brand positioning and strategic consultancy for businesses of all sizes, from small to mid-sized through to large, high-profile companies, as well as start-ups. He also has extensive experience working with relevant government agencies in various countries as needed to meet companies’ goals.

My background in the Fashion & Apparel Industry
I started in the fashion industry working in my family business in Italy distributing exclusive fabrics produced in Biella (north Italy) for tailors and fashion designers such as Giorgio Armani and Versace.
When I moved to New Zealand, I became involved in the world of denim, working as Production Co-ordinator and Production Manager for Calvin Klein Jeans where I liaised with the Florence office to source fabrics, receive technical information and obtain production approvals.
My next denim adventure took me to Fiji, where I set up a factory and laundry in Suva for United Apparel’s dedicated production line for 5 Pockets Jeans. During this time I attended textile exhibitions including Premiere Class (Paris), Milano Unica, Idea Como and Pitti Uomo in Italy to source the fabrics for spring/summer and autumn/winter collections.
I then took my expertise to Europe to manage sales growth for the linen mill Ulster Weavers working with major European apparel companies, including Inditex, Zara, Massimo Dutti, Mango, Diesel, Benetton, Gas and Max Mara. I developed fabrics and finished garments for key accounts and in two years exceeded the sales budget by 20%.
Next I stepped up to an executive role in Australia as Chief Operations Officer with sass & bide. I coordinated and organised production and marketing activities, working across all facets of the company, from PR through to sales and design teams. One highlight was increasing sales performance in Australia by 25% for a total of $10M retail.
I then moved into the leather industry, participating in the Lineapelle exhibitions in Bologna and Milan twice a year. As Jacaru Australia CEO I restructured and repositioned the brand in the domestic market and made significant inroads with the brand in the European and USA markets, increasing wholesale and retail sales by 35%. Other achievements include acquiring exclusive distribution rights for Australia and New Zealand from Bollman and working with Stetson USA, successfully introducing the ‘Stetson Modern’ apparel concept.
Moving back into denim as Lee Cooper’s Managing Director in London, I set out and implemented a 5-year business strategy to reposition this brand internationally. I introduced new licensees and led international cross-functional teams to deliver budget sales results, ensuring alignment of product, sales and marketing and the compliance of brand segmentation locally and overseas. I developed strong relationships with government and company stakeholders for ICONIX New York.
